Dear Subscriber, Welcome to our latest issue of coaching focus from creative partner! This newsletter offers you some thoughts and ideas based on my experiences as a coach. Have you every wondered why children learn so much faster than adults? What can we do to make it easier to keep our skills up-to-date? This time the topic is 'Learning...'. I hope you will find this e-zine both practical and interesting, and that you will share this with colleagues and friends. Warm regards,
Performing in the global economy and functioning in a global society requires mastery of technical, interpersonal, cultural, and business skills. We all need to constantly learn new things to do well in our job and our personal life. But how do we do that? Over the past few months, I was observing my 3-year old daughter how she masters to learn new skills. In a very short amount of time, she learned how to ride her bicycle (picture). Then, we went skiing and after only two days on ski she went all the way up the hill with us and made it to the bottom in no time. I was amazed by her learning curve. Now, she's taking swim classes and acts like a fish in water. I asked myself why children learn so much easier than adults and here're my thoughts:
As an adult we're conditioned and have reached a certain point of advancement in life. Therefore, to learn new things will require great effort and willingness consciously. So, what can we learn from our children? 1. Keep an open mind when it comes to new things, e.g. technology or different cultures. 2. Be curious how new skills can help you to improve your life. 3. Let go of any prejudice; this will make learning much easier. 4. Start small. Develop a passion for one new thing and learn all you can about it. You'll see how great it'll feel. 5. Don't be afraid that you can't do it. You can and you will do it. It might just take a little longer. Go for it! 6. Unclutter your mind to create space for new skills. Let go of old views or believes. I want to encourage and challenge you to ask yourself: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about how to move forward.
