    The Secret of First's

I recently got back from Germany where I had a wonderful time with my family and old friends. While away from home and my office, I took some time to reflect on the past few months.

I noticed a pattern that I didn't see before: First's. As I thought about it, I came up with many 'First's' in my life. Looking even further, I realized the same is true for my clients. Here're some examples:

    > First time going on a camping trip
    > First time creating a painting
    > First time writing a book
    > First time wakeboarding
    > First time skiing
    > First time becoming an entrepreneur
    > First time moving to a new state, country, or away from home
    > First time standing up for yourself and say 'No' to someone
    > First time speaking in front of a larger group
    > First time realizing the need to do something for yourself

The list is endless... Doing something for the first time doesn't seem easy. It's new. We don't know what to expect. We all are afraid of failure, of being judged, of being rejected. However, once we find the courage to conquer one's weaker self, the reward is awesome. We gain an inconceivable energy boost, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

The hurdle might seem pretty high at first, but once we've overcome it we look at ourselves in a new and different way. I really enjoy the challenge of 'First's' and ask myself: "What can I try next that I haven't done before?" I find it stimulating to research a new topic and learn everything about it I need to know. Once I'm ready and prepared, I trust myself that I did everything possible to do my best. I go for it! Besides adding a new skill to my toolbox, I truly love the feeling of accomplishment and that I put into action what I set forth to do.

I have realized that there are plenty of opportunities to try new things. You just have to be open to them.

So, what will YOU try for the first time in the next 30-90 days?

    > Stand up for what you believe in?
    > Start learning a new personal skill, language, or sport?
    > Join a professional or social group?
    > Travel to a place where you have never been before?
    > Buy a house or an investment property?
    > Explore a business idea you're thinking about?

    Just think 'outside the box'....

When you're ready to try something for the first time, I'd like to hear from you. I will publish your 'First's' in my next newsletter, which might encourage others to go for it. What a wonderful way for you to make a difference in someone's life. Don't you think?

    Tip of the month

    Break it down...

When you start something new, it might seem overwhelming at first. You have to learn a new skill, take appropriate action, and devote time to your new venture. To make this process easier and more rewarding for you, create a mini action plan.

Write down all the things you need to do in order to get ready and be prepared. Now you have small action steps to take... Once you've completed the first action step mark it off. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you motivated to move forward. Go for it!

    Quote of the month

"You must learn day by day, year by year, to broaden your horizon. The more things you love, the more you are interested in, the more you enjoy, the more you are indignant about, the more you have left when anything happens."
